چکیده

We analyze non-linear transverse mode coupling in a Kerr medium placed in an optical cavity and its influence on bistability and different kinds of quantum noise reduction. Even for an input beam which is perfectly matched to a cavity mode, the non-linear coupling produces an excess noise in the fluctuations of the output beam. Intensity squeezing seems to be particularly robust with respect to mode coupling while quadrature squeezing is more sensitive. However it is possible to find a mode the quadrature squeezing of which is not affected by the coupling.

Mode interaction in multi-mode optical fibers with Kerr effect

The coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations (CNLS) which describe two linearly polarized modes interaction (with taken into account the polarization modes interaction) in the Kerr medium is derived. We take first two modes for cylindrical fiber which are also known as HE11 and TE01 modes which have different propagation constant. This approach bases on projection to orthogonal function basis (B...

Multidimensional coupling owing to optical nonlinearities. I. General formulation

A beam propagating in a nonlinear, dispersive medium can experience nonlinear coupling among its parameters in the x, y, and t dimensions. We derive two new computational techniques that account for this coupling. The first technique uses the beam-propagation method to solve three coupled differential equations, and the second uses six coupled second-moment equations. Nonlinear coupling is espe...

Transverse instability of counterpropagating waves in photorefractive media.

The transverse instability of counterpropagating waves in nonlinear media with a photorefractive or Kerr-type nonlinearity is studied. The problem is formulated for a sluggish nonlinear medium that responds much slower than the optical frequency. In this limit, a general dispersion relation, valid for arbitrary longitudinal variation of the optical intensities, is obtained and solved numericall...

Eliminating the transverse instabilities of kerr solitons

We show analytically, numerically, and experimentally that a transversely stable one-dimensional [(1+1)D] bright Kerr soliton can exist in a 3D bulk medium. The transverse instability of the soliton is completely eliminated if it is made sufficiently incoherent along the transverse dimension. We derive a criterion for the threshold of transverse instability that links the nonlinearity to the la...

A Treatment of the Absorption Spectrum for a Multiphoton V-Type Three-Level Atom Interacting with a Squeezed Coherent Field in the Presence of Nonlinearities

We study the interaction of a three-level atom with a single mode field through multiphoton transition in a cavity, taking explicitly into account the existence of forms of nonlinearities of both the field and the intensity-dependent atom-field coupling. The analytical forms of the absorption spectrum is calculated using the dressed states of the system. The effects of photon multiplicities, me...
